Links and Resources

In addition to the informative websites of BHA member organizations, there are a number of online links and resources that offer valuable health information. A few are presented here.

Ministry of Health Promotion (Ontario): The Ministry of Health Promotion’s goal is to develop a culture of health and wellbeing in Ontario and help contribute to the sustainability of our publicly funded health care system.

Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (Ontario) will provide overall direction and leadership for the Ontario health care system, focusing on planning, and on guiding resources to bring value to the health system. The ministry will be less involved when it comes to the actual delivery of health care.

Health Canada is the Federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health, while respecting individual choices and circumstances.

Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs). Created by the Ontario government in March 2006, LHINs work with local health providers and community members to determine the health service priorities of their regions.

Toronto Public Health. Works in many ways to improve the overall health of the population and to overcome health inequalities. Toronto Public Health provides services to individuals and communities, and advocates for public policies that make the city of Toronto healthier.

International Society on Hypertension in Blacks (ISHIB). ISHIB’s goal is to improve the health and life expectancy of ethnic minorities and eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities in cardiovascular disease through professional and public education, targeted clinical research, and facilitation of the delivery of higher quality cardiovascular health care.

Black Doctor. The aim of Black Doctor is to build a comprehensive database of accurate, relevant information and to be the first point of call whenever African Americans need medical/dental information.

Health Knowledge Magazine flourishes with ethnic health alerts and wellness, food values, global health disparities, well written factual and informative articles, plus international profiles.
