AMENDMENT: BOOKKEEPER- BLACK HEALTH ALLIANCE

The Black Health Alliance (BHA) seeks a versatile, detail-oriented professional. We are hiring a
Bookkeeper to execute all of the organization’s bookkeeping functions. We are particularly interested in
encouraging qualified applicants from communities that reflect the diversity of the Black community in
Ontario.

The BHA Board of Directors is the legal governing body of the Corporation that is responsible for
determining and executing the mission of the organization and its strategic direction. The
Bookkeeper will report to the Board.

Job Summary
The bookkeeper will develop a system in line with professional bookkeeping policies and procedures to
account for all financial transactions of the organization and ensures system integrity. Core duties
include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, creating financial reports and statements and
other related duties as assigned by the Board.

Responsibilities
● Establish a chart of accounts and an orderly accounting system to manage all financial
transactions and the generation of monthly, quarterly or annual financial reports and
statements
● Develop system to process various payroll accounts in a timely manner
● Prepare financial reports in compliance with project funding requirements
● Comply with local, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements
● Assist with preparation of organization’s financial statements, operational budget, CRA annual
return and T4 slips
● Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
● Collaborate with external accountant and/or auditor as required
● Provide administrative and administrative support to management as requested

The ideal candidate will have:
● Minimum education of Accounting/Business Administration diploma
● 2 years + bookkeeping/accounting experience that includes accounts receivable/payroll
● Knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles
● Knowledge of Microsoft Office
● Experience supporting charitable not for profit organizations
● Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of accounting software such
as the QuickBooks, SAGE or FinancialForce.
● Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
● Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work in diverse environments
● Strong work ethics, multi-tasker and flexible

Remuneration: Competitive hourly rate
